Our Marko is a real sleeper--he's absolutely gorgeous, and we think he has valuable depth of genotype AND phenotype. Marko has silky, well- demarcated pencilled black locks to the skin with gorgeous luster. He has a PERFECT head! The judges at the West Coast Alpaca show (Wade Gease and Winnie La Breque--THEY know a thing or 2 about suris,...) LOVED him and awarded him 2 halter championships, including the prestigious Champion Processing-Length Suri--for ALL shorn suris--male and female! He... |

A Platinum Marquis Beauty - When Satin was born it was said that she appeared to be a slick black girl and after two weeks her top line started to show silver. After shearing more silver spots appeared on her neck and back hip area. We feel fortunate to own both her and her half-sister, Victoria. Their sire, Platinum Marquis was quite the multiple champion. Adding to that, her dam was a very lusterous fawn that had an AFD of 22.7 - SD of 5 at 5 years old! She also has Torbio in her lineage. ... |

We were anxiously awaiting our last birth of the 2017 season and despite having 6 beautiful boys born already, upon this guys delivery we were not disappointed in having "another" boy. We feel we got a show stopper.
This may have been the only grey that SoCal Greystone's Marko had and we think he did extremely well. Marko is black but his sire was Prince Greystone and this little guy's dam, Satin, who looks black, is really dark silver grey. She was sired by Platinum Marquis a silver grey, but she is out of a fawn dam. When breeding for grey one never knows what color may come up. We knew this guys dam has lovely luster and we loved the feeling of her yarn. Marko has nice fineness, lock structure and uniformity and both parents have nice conformation - not tall or long.
While Steele is still young, he is exhibiting luster & lock with a nice handle. At his first shows, he took a 2nd in Dixon while only making the cut-off age to show by 2 days and he took a 3rd at GWAS as the youngest in his class. In walking fleece he took another 3rd place with above average density, uniformity & luster noted. After his first shearing much more medium silver grey AND luster is apparent. Though I already thought he was nice, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of luster. Check out his picture shorn, which is better in person, just gorgeous!
We think Steele may grow to have the whole package, conformation that is sturdy, square in the box from day one and his color and shine! We are watching those secondary fibers coming in to see how they develop.
His name, "Steele the Show" a nod to a Toby Mac song, if you want to steal the show - can't wait to sit back and watch you go - go on and take it away...
Steele has very similar genetics to our SoCal Greystone's Marquis that we are thrilled with. We are quickly becoming male dominant in our herd but I keep thinking he is worth holding on to.
